2017 we died.

⬇️  2018 RECAP  ⬇️

JANUARY: FOUR BORSCHT FILMS PLAY SUNDANCE

Three of them were by first-time female filmmakers.

PLUR by Julie Fliegenspan
Agua Viva by Alexa Lim Haas
Mud by Shandiin Tome
GREAT CHOICE by Robin Comisar

MARCH: BORSCHT FILM WINS SXSW

Agua Viva by Alexa Lim Haas won the jury prize for Animated Short.

MAY: BORSCHT MERCH BLOWS UP

Our online store of rare and luxurious memorabilia for all worlds suddenly became popular with celebbos and other humans alike, often selling out drops in a matter of hours.
For the new year we've opened the vault to make our iconic deadstock bootleg lacoste/gucci hat available again for a very limited time.

JUNE: BORSCHT GETS A MALL

We moved into Mana Contemporary's 777 Mall in downtown Miami, and hosted events and flash residencies in this thing.

JULY: BORSCHT FILMMAKERS PLUNDERED BY HOLLYWOOD

Local Borschtians the Meza Brothers (the pride of West Kendall) directed Ash vs. Evil Dead for Starz and had their feature concept aquired by Orion Pictures.

Amy Seimetz crushed season 2 of The Girlfriend Experience on Starz and episodes of Atlanta.

Brett Potter and Bernardo Britto respectively developed episodic content. Julian Yuri Rodriguez and Giancarlo Loffredo had viral music videos.

A French magazine devoted an issue to Borscht and its collaborators.

Terence Nance had a hit HBO show in Random Acts of Flyness, and was promptly pegged to direct Space Jam 2 starring LeBron James. Yes, the same Terence who voiced Chris Bosh in Adventures of Christopher Bosh in the Multiverse! #AllLifeIsReal

And of course, Barry Jenkins released his Moonlight follow-up If Beale Street Could Talk to rapturous reviews.

AUGUST: BORSCHT INTERNS REBEL, THROW A FILM FESTIVAL

Our brilliant summer fellows (with support from our friends at Cinereach) collectivized, dubbed themselves The Aborschtions, created a slate of wild shorts, and threw the Borscht -0.5 Film Festival from the afterlife.

It was sick.

SEPTEMBER: BORSCHT FILMS RELEASED ON CRITERION COLLECTION

We signed a deal to release exclusive shorts from the Borscht Vault alongside some of our remastered classics through Criterion.

Never would have imagined that our janky little Miami movies would one day have the Criterion logo in front of them, but here we are. Dream come true.

OCTOBER: BORSCHT DROPS 5TH VIMEO STAFF PICK OF YEAR

The curators at Vimeo continue to love Miami and provide a platform to share our stories with the world. This year they chose these films for their prestigious Staff Picks:

NOVEMBER: BORSCHT ANNOUNCES MAMMOTH SLATE OF 40+ COMMISSIONS

After extensively reviewing over 600 entries in what was BY FAR our most competitive year ever, we are so proud to reveal our slate of commissioned projects for Borscht 0.

DECEMBER: BORSCHT RECEIVES 7-FIGURE INVESTMENT FROM KNIGHT FOUNDATION

When our long-term partners the Knight Foundation announced $37 million in support for the arts in Miami, we were lucky enough to be one of the organizations supported, alongside cultural institutions like museums, performing art centers, the symphony, and the ballet.

Even though it looks like we are rich now, the support is specifically to create new programs and initiatives over many years, and we will continue to maintain our scrappy spirit (sorry to disappoint everyone already hitting us up for money online).

APRIL 2019

FAIRCHILD
(HELP A SISTER OUT)

This exciting group of young filmmakers is looking for some help to make their short. Our #NoBroZone program helped them a little, but they want to involve a larger community.

Check out and support Fairchild by Kali Kahn here.

THANK YOU

None of this happens without a veritable army of people who lend their time and brains to the cause of Miami Cinema. Even though we have a small team, we make up for it with the generosity of a huge community who support us. If you've made it this far in the email, this means you.

so, from the bottom of our hearts: thankuthankuthankuthanku <3
